WHY (Wang, Hsiu-yu) was born in Taipei, Taiwan on November 30, 1978. She named herself Clare at the age of 12 or 13. Years later she came upon a courageous girl with enormous thumbs, Sissy Hankshaw, in Even Cowgirls Get the Blues by Tom Robbins.

Clare would love to have Hankshaw’s courage, not her thumbs.
